Duwain Herring

Duwain is a former U.S. Navy boatswain’s mate and salvage diver. He attended the School of Allied Arts in Glendale, California, on the G.I. Bill to study commercial art. When the Korean War started he was recalled to active duty and assigned to harbor defense in Japan, which was still under U.S. occupation. In 1955 he was released from active duty and remained in Japan where he went to work for the Tokyo office of a major American advertising agency as an account executive and art director.

Duwain returned to the States in 1961 and went to work at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California as a technical writer/illustrator until 1971, attending Southwestern University law school at night. During this period, a friend of Duwain’s ask him to paint a picture of a World War I fighter plane, which he did. One thing led to another and soon Duwain was in the business of producing fine art limited edition aviation lithographs, which soon lead to marine illustration.

Duwain now resides in Arroyo Grande, California, near Moro Bay and is now offering original marine art and lithographic and computer generated prints of historical ships and aircraft.

Duwain’s original work and prints have been shown in galleries in Morro Bay, Pasadena, and Laguna Beach, and will now be available on-line.
